Patient Information

Patient: Ms. Li, 71 years old

Chief complaint: Bilateral knee pain with limited mobility for over ten years

Current medical history: Ten years ago, the patient developed bilateral knee pain and soreness without apparent cause, primarily in the right knee. The pain worsened with activity, particularly when ascending and descending stairs or squatting, and eased with rest. The pain was moderate and tolerable, with no radiating pain elsewhere. The pattern of initial pain followed by relief and then pain continued. The patient experienced no hemoptysis, chest tightness, palpitations, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, profuse sweating, chills or fever, hematuria, afternoon hot flashes, cough or sputum, night sweats, or limb weakness. She had visited a local hospital several times since the onset of the disease. While the knee pain resolved with treatment, it frequently recurred and progressively worsened, with difficulty moving the knees. The pain in her left knee remained unrelieved. For further treatment, she sought admission to the First Division of the Orthopedics Department for outpatient treatment of bilateral knee osteoarthritis. The patient's mental state, sleep, appetite, and bowel movements have been normal recently. He has no chills or fever, and has not experienced significant weight loss or gain.

Medical History: He has a history of hypertension and self-administers extended-release nifedipine tablets, reporting that his blood pressure is well controlled. He also reports a history of diabetes and regularly controls his blood sugar with metformin and glyburide, which he reports as well controlled. He denies any history of infectious diseases such as hepatitis and tuberculosis, coronary heart disease, stomach problems, food or drug allergies, or any other trauma.

Diagnosis: Right knee osteoarthritis

Treatment: Knee replacement surgery
